SHORT STORIES

These short stories were included as part of a larger collection of poetry and writing. They tell a story not only through the text, but through the expressive treatment of typography as well.

THE SHAWL

The Shawl, written by Cynthia Ozick, explores the desperation of Rosa as she tries to take care of her newborn baby during World War II. The treatment of typography helps to emphasize her loss and despair.

THE STOLEN PARTY

Nine year old Rosaura is excited to be invited to a birthday party only to later learn a harsh lesson about discrimination. The use of blue and yellow in this story illustrates her isolation among others who are not like her.
